Wednesday's What's Up With That!? - Halloween Edition
Oh Halloween. Apparently I live in the "go to" neighborhood. Parents are literally dropping their children off in our neighborhood - I'm not sure why - I live in an average neighborhood, nothing fancy. Shrug.
Last year we had two hundred and twenty-something trick or treaters - this year 177. It take A LOT of candy to feed these people.
With that said, here are a few things that really grind my gears.
1) Parents with infants with bags for candy - who is that candy really for?
2) Teens who are way to old to be trick or treating anyways.
3) Kids/teens/etc. who are trick or treating and don't even put the effort into dressing up - like NO costume at all.
4) kids who come to my house multiple times.
5) people who step into your house or start asking questions about your house while peering into your house.
Our front room is STILL empty - you don't know how many people were like, "why don't you have any furniture?" We just ignored the questions, but I wanted to respond with one of the following:
a) Why are you looking in my house?
b) We had to sell it all to buy all of you candy!
I had heard some lovely suggestions for next year.
- you know those signs at Disneyland that say "you must be this tall to ride this ride" - how about reverse that? you cannot be taller than this sign to trick or treat here.
- have two buckets - 1 bucket for the appropriate trick or treaters filled with the good stuff. the other bucket for the parents, teens, or people who do not even try to dress up filled with used gum and erasers. haha.
Okay, I won't really do any of that, but c'mon! What's Up With That!?

Wednesday's What's Up With That!? - I'm too sexy for this chicken....?
Okay... I get why people are vegetarian - I have seen those horrific films about food and meat, etc etc. However, it's just not something I could do - I love my meat.
I also understand PETA - animals should be treated ethically. HOWEVER, sometimes, okay a lot of the times, PETA comes off as just batshit crazy!
This article for example. They're mad because they think the chicken is too sexy? Seriously? And they are accusing the new york times of necrophilia? WHAT!?
I'm sure not everyone shares the same viewpoint as me on this issue, but I just thought this article was absurd. I'm not trying to pick a fight because everyone is entitled to their own opinions - one of my favorite phrases, although crude, is opinions are like a**holes, everyone has got one. And frankly, you're allowed to have your own opinions, etc. etc. That doesn't mean that sometimes I question the sanity of a persons' opinion (lol).
I saw this article last week and just HAD to share. What do you think - valid complaint by PETA or not? Is this chicken too sexy?
P.S.: PETA may "take offense" to a sexily posed chicken - but if it's a human woman - that's a-okay. In fact, that's part of their campaign! Check it out here.

Wednesday's What's Up With That - Season 13 of Dancing With the [Quasi] Stars Announced
Yes, I know it's Tuesday, but I couldn't wait. HA!
I feel like a broken record as I believe I posted a WWUWT last season about this same issue.... Oh wait I did, you can check it out here.
Monday night the "stars" were announced for this upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars (DWTS).
Yet again, the show has used the term "stars" very loosely. Remember when they broke the story about how DWTS was trying to recruit A-list actors? Ya, apparently they failed. Rather miserably.
So without further ado, I bring to you the recently announced cast list for DWTS Season 13 and my amazing thoughts on same.
Chaz Bono - So apparently this is the child of Sonny and Cher - and he used to be a woman, and is now a man. I've never even heard of this person. This isn't even a B list celeb - not even a D list - more like a Z list. This is lame. Ridiculously lame. LAME!
Nancy Grace - Okay, I can't stand her, but secretly love her. Does that even make sense? Anywho, she's not A-list, but perhaps B-list. At least she's not a local TV personality (like the local radio personality last season) - she does actually appear on national television. She might be interesting.
David Arquette - quasi A-list although he's been out of the limelight for some time. I'll give them some credit for getting him.
Ron Artest - basketball player for the Lakers - nice. Athletes always do pretty well.
Ricki Lake - is she A-list? I'd go with B-list. Doesn't she have dance experience? I think she will probably be pretty good. My prediction is she will be in the top 3.
Chynna Phillips - Who on Earth is this? I don't recognize her photo or her name. NO idea who this is.
Kristin Cavallari - I thought that article (see above) specifically made fun of the fact that reality stars are NOT A-list stars and that they were LAME. I've never watched The Hills (that is the show she is from right?) and I don't like her because of the mere point that she dated Cutler, who I can't stand. Cutler looks like an escaped insane asylum patient. Anyone who would date him has to be desperate. Did I hear rumors they were getting back together? If he shows up in the audience I might throw up.
Carson Kressley - No idea who this is either?
Rob Kardashian - So I didn't even realize they had a brother. This is lame. Almost as lame as Chaz Bono. At least one of the 3 sisters are more well known. C'mon. Sigh.
JR Martinez - A soap star and Iraq vet - it does pull at my heart strings with him being a veteran and all, but I had no idea who this was. I believe they picked him because of his disabled vet status to hopefully get more sympathy viewers. He is definitely not an A-list celebrity. Not even close.
Hope Solo - So she was in the limelight for like 2.5 seconds when the ladies soccer went to the championships - had anyone even heard of her before that? I get that they like to have athletes on the show, but at least get well known athletes for crying out loud!
Elisabetta Canalis - so her claim to fame is that she USED to date Clooney? Oh and she allegedly was some kind of model? Not A-list. Not at all. For some unknown reason I haven't found any of the past models to be very good - its like they have no coordination whatsoever - or maybe they look like bobble heads because their bodies are ridiculously skinny. Shrug.
So there it is. The Season 13 cast of Dancing With the [Quasi] Stars. Anyone else have any early top picks? Mine is Ricki Lake.

Wednesday's What's Up With That?
Have you ever noticed how dentists/dental hygienists/assistants/etc. LOVE to talk to you? Particularly they love asking you questions while they are working on your teeth.
I had a dental appointment (joy) this past Monday. The dental hygienist was very sweet and friendly. She begins the cleaning with her tools all up in my grill (literally) and immediately asks, "Are you married?" Luckily my response of "uh huh" didn't require her pulling the tools out of my mouth, but her next question of "for how long?" did.
I'm not sure why she didn't know that "or un eer" was "for one year", but she pulled the tools out of my mouth and looked at me all irritated like "why are you talking when I'm working on your teeth?"
YOU ASKED ME A QUESTION. If you don't want me to talk, don't ask questions. Or at least don't look irritated when you have to stop working on my mouth so that I can respond to YOUR question! What's up with that? Sigh.
I made the next mistake of asking if she was married - to which her reply was "well, kind of" and then I was forced to listen to her marital problems for an hour while she cleaned my teeth and checked my gums and took x-rays. She was very sweet, but I feel uncomfortable listening to people's marital problems when I'm not at work (since I work in a divorce firm and all). Keep in mind she does NOT know what I do for a living - but nevertheless elicited my commentary on whether or not I think her "husband" is controlling, or how she should respond to her friends when they call him controlling, etc. I told her to listen to Dr. Laura's book, "The Proper Care & Feeding of Marriage", and that only she could determine if her husband was just being a man, or if was actually overstepping his role and attempting to control her.
My husband and I are currently listening to this book on audio. Each night at dinner we listen to about a half hour of it together. It's interesting - talking about the male and female roles in a marriage/relationship. Although I may not agree with everything that is said, I have learned a lot and she makes a lot of good points. Anyways, totally got off on a tangent - maybe I'll post about this book in another post when I'm all done.
Back to the subject - is it just my dental hygienist that does this, or is this a universal problem?

Wednesday's What's Up With That?
So I love SYTYCD (for those of you living under a rock, that's So You Think You Can Dance). Last week, Lady Gaga was the guest judge.
I know she's strange, but she brought it all out in her appearance in which she judged the contestants last Wednesday.
I don't know about you, but I have been in the "dance community" since I was four years of age. At no point did I ever see, or hear of anyone throwing a shoe on stage. However, Lady Gaga insists that in the "dance community when you do a really good job, what you do is you throw your shoe on stage" and then she proceeded to take off her heinous shoe and chuck it on stage at Sasha and Melanie.
Not only that, but her show was gigantor and probably weighed 20 lbs., if that throw had been a little off she could have hurt someone.
I wonder who got to keep the shoe? I wonder what one would do with ONE Lady Gaga shoe... not that two would have been any better because I sure as heck wouldn't wear them. SO what would YOU do with one gigantor Lady Gaga shoe?
I would sell it. For sure.
ps: If you missed the action - here is a look on youtube.

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
Although some of you are my facebook friends and may have already seen my grumpy post this morning - I thought I would repost as my Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
Why is that I have no problem falling into a deep deep sleep in the five minutes between my alarm sounding and my snooze alarm, yet lay awake for HOURS in the middle of the night? WHY!? WHY!?
I think I may be nocturnal.

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
Today's topic will be volunteerism. I am involved in a wonderful community service organization for women. It is a national organization known as Junior League (you can check out their website here). I am involved in my local chapter and have been for the past 5 years.
My frustration today is with the lack of follow through of people. I understand this is a volunteer organization, but that is exactly what the organization relies on, volunteers. Things come up, personal circumstances change, I get that...... but if you volunteer to handle something, and you are no longer able to handle that responsibility, notify someone immediately. What ever happened to common courtesy? Don't just fall off the face of the planet - what's up with that!? Not only is that frustrating, but it's a great disappointment and let down - people (and projects) were relying on your contribution that you said you would do.
We start a new fiscal year in June, I do hope that there is a change. This is by no means a bash of the organization, as I truly do love the organization and what it stands for, it is more a bash of the trend in some people's failure to follow through on commitment. This is just a few people, not a representation of the entire League, but in such a small league, we rely on each and every person, and even just one person dropping the ball so to speak, sucks. I wouldn't mind if you told me as soon as you found out something changed and you were no longer able to commit, which would give us time to find someone else to fill your role - the problem is in not following through and not telling anyone about it.
Sigh.

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
Charlie Sheen is nuts. NUTS! However, it's like a train wreck that you just can't help but watch. It's fascinating how he continues to spiral completely out of control.
The most recent event is that he is hiring (as in for money) a Social Media Intern to manage his now over 2 million followers on Twitter as well as his other social media networks.
You can check out the whole article here, which includes a link to the online application to become Charlie's Social Media Intern.
It's only an 8 week job.... great for those college kids looking for a Summer gig. This is directly from the application found on internships.com:
Deadline: March 11th, 2011
Position: Full-Time, Paid
Timeframe: Summer 2011 (8 weeks)
Description: Do you have #TigerBlood? Are you all about #Winning? Can you #PlanBetter than anyone else? If so, we want you on #TeamSheen as our social media #TigerBloodIntern!
This unique internship opportunity will allow a hard-working, self-motivated, creative, resourceful and social media savvy individual to work closely with Charlie Sheen in leveraging his social network. The internship will focus on executing a social media strategy that will build on the success Charlie Sheen has attained in setting the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to reach one million followers on Twitter. The #TigerBloodIntern is expected to be proactive, monitor the day-to-day activities on the major social media platforms, prepare for exciting online projects and increase Charlie’s base of followers.
You will learn how to promote and develop the social media network of Hollywood’s most trending celebrity.
Then the application consists of the following questions:
First name
Last name
Email address
I should be the Social Media Intern Because: (75 words or less)
Is this for real? It can't possibly be for real can it? I think everyone should apply who is reading this blog post. The rule is, you must leave a comment with your 75 words or less answer to "I should be the Social Media Intern Because".
I have to admit - I considered copying my outcome to this awesome Charlie Sheen rant mad lib as my application.
In case you were curious, my very own Charlie Sheen rant is as follows:

I am on a drug. It’s called Elizabeth. If you try it once, you will yank. Your esophagus will melt off, and your minions will plummet over your stabbed body … I’m tired of pretending like I’m not baffled—a total freaking waitress from Uranus. I’ve got coyote blood, Apollo DNA! … They picked a fight with a vampire. They’re trying to take all my mellons and leave me with no means to poke my family. It’s not oceanography! They owe me an apology while licking my pelvis … I don’t think people are ready for the chair I’m delivering, and delivering with a sense of hideous love. I exposed idiots to magic! Here’s your mucus test. Next one goes in your belly button!
You know you wanna try.....

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
So I love dance. I grew up dancing ballet, jazz, hip hop, etc. I even took a swing class many years back. Naturally I love the dancing shows - specifically So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) and Dancing With the Stars (DWTS).
Monday night the upcoming stars for the new seasons of DWTS was announced........ boy was I disappointed.
The following are the new season's cast of "stars".... and I use that term loosely:
1) Chelsea Kane - WHO? Seriously, never heard of her. Ever. Her photo doesn't even ring a bell.
2) Chris Jericho - Huh? Who's that? Apparently a wrestler or something. I don't watch wrestling, but I do watch ESPN news in the morning each and every weekday and to my knowledge I've NEVER heard his name mentioned. Again, I'm staring blankly at his photo, although he's somewhat easy on the eyes.
3) Hines Ward - FINALLY a person I not only recognize the name, but is a legitimate "star" so to speak (in the sports field anyways). I like him. My husband does not. Although football players have historically done pretty well on this show.... I'm just saying.
4) Kendra Wilkinson - Oh no. PLEASE NO! I hate her. There are very few people that I hate. Few people that get on my nerves as much as this person. I've literally watched all of 5 minutes of that most ridiculous show (The Girls Next Door) and immediately had to turn it off as I was losing brain cells at a rapid pace. I also (unfortunately) saw her interviewed on Chelsea Lately. She's so..... crass. Ugh. No!
5) Kirstie Alley - Okay. I've heard of her. I know who she is. She's a "B-list star" at most, but eh, I don't care either way on this one. She comes across as having a strong personality, so we will see how that goes. Maybe she'll be the next Kate (from Jon and Kate Plus 8).
6) Mike Catherwood - refer to person number one. Ditto. Oh, replace "her" with "him".
7) Petra Nemcova - shrug. Who is this? I VAGUELY remember a story of a model and a tsunami, but I would never have come up with her name, nor would I have recognized her photo.
8) Ralph Macchio - so I've heard of the Karate Kid but never seen it. I've also never seen My Cousin Vinny. So he's been in 2 movies. Is that his only claim to fame? What has he done recently? Anything? Anything?
9) Romeo (aka Lil' Romeo) - I've heard his music. Wouldn't have recognized him, he's not really a "star" in my eyes. Shrug.
10) Sugar Ray Leonard - I don't watch boxing, but I've heard his name.
11) Wendy Williams - Never heard of her either. I understand she has her own talk show or something, but I work during the day, so I've never seen it and I don't recall seeing a commercial for it.
Maybe I live under a rock? Do I live under a rock? Is it just me or is ABC using the term "star" loosely these days? I feel like maybe they're desperate and taking anyone who will agree? This is just pathetic. What is up with that ABC!? This is your list of "stars"? I love your show, but COME ON!
Sigh. I'll still watch. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.
EDIT TO ADD: This line-up is almost as laughable as Skating With the "Stars".

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
Remember growing up as a child and watching football with your Dad? My favorite part was always the celebration dances. I lived for them. I even selected my favorite football players based on their celebration dances when I was a child. (Note - in case you were curious my favorite player growing up was the 49ers Merton Hanks - safety - who had the coolest interception dance ever! He was later traded to the Seahawks and I lost all interest, lol).
Now, however, a 15 yard penalty on the ensuing kickoff will be imposed for "excessive celebrations". What's up with that!? This is nothing new, as this was put into effect in late 2009, but I'm still upset. What is "excessive"? That seems a little subjective don't you think? Furthermore, what is the purpose of taking this relatively harmless yet widely entertaining action out of football games? Who was it harming? Now what will a little girl look forward to while watching football with her Daddy?
A friend of mine recently brought up a fabulous idea, and I'm going to throw it out there in my blog today. What if after a play or touchdown you had a specified amount of time to celebrate - let's say 15 seconds. Anything over the 15 seconds would be subject to the aforementioned penalty. At the end of the year the NFL players and/or fans would vote on their favorite dances of the season and the winner would be announced as part of the pre-superbowl or pro-bowl festivites.
Now wouldn't that be more fun?!

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
Errrr..... Monday. Whatever. I couldn't wait. I stayed up until after 11pm (which is way late for me) trying to watch all of the Grammys. Barbara Streisand put me to sleep though so I had to call it a night, so this dose of "What's Up With That!?" features only through her performance.
Sorry I couldn't wait until Wednesday, some of the clothing (and performances) were just too terrible to put off a few more days without commentary.
First up, I watched the red carpet show. While some stars dazzled the red carpet, others left me with raised eyebrows and disapproving head nods.
Katy Perry - why did no one comment on her wings? How could Ryan Seacrest NOT say anything about her wings, simply only asking who did her dress? How about who's brilliant (sarcasm) idea was it to add wings to this dress?
Next up, Rihanna. What the heck!? I can see everything. Everything! Who thought this was a good idea. Worse - I actually saw her listed on some one's best dressed list this morning. HUH!?
Some chick who's name I don't even know from Glee is next on my list. Check out her necklace/shoulder pad thingy. What is that? Ick.
Next up, Hayley from Paramore (sorry Laura) AND Pauley Perrette (from NCIS). I love them both and they are both adorable girls, but their dresses didn't do anything for their cute figures. It made Hayley look like she had a boy figure and Pauley look like she was ridiculously tall.... and weird looking.
Gwyneth Paltrow - although her outfit was okay, boring at best, her earrings looked like they belonged.... somewhere else. Hideous. Oh and I was not impressed with her singing performance either for that matter.
Miley Cyrus - although her dress wasn't all together bad, her side boob is what ruined it. They were like hanging out the sides, made it totally trashy and just plain blah. I couldn't get a good pic, but you can sorta see in the below pic. Also, totally unimpressed with her jewelery, if that's what you even call it?

Heidi Klum - a gorgeous woman with the wrong dress. This dress made her body shape look really really weird. Poor choice whoever dressed her.
Uhhh.... did you guys check out this outfit? I don't know what's worse, the outfit or the hair. I think I have to go with the hair. Thank you Nicki Minaj for being a complete eye sore.
The cake has to go, however, to Cee Lo Green (although Nicki was a close second). He looks like a ghetto big bird. I don't even know what else to say. I think the photo speaks for itself.....
There were many other questionable get-ups, but these are the ones that really stood out to me and made me say "What's up with that!?".
The performances were also iffy - Bob Dylan - please don't ever sing again. I almost had to put the TV on mute, it was painful for us listeners to suffer through, even with the talent you had attempting to sing over you so we didn't have to listen to your god-awful voice.
Mick Jagger - settle down. You're 67 years old, clearly on something and obviously think you still possess some type of sex appeal. You don't. Stop now.
Barbara Streisand. Ugh, it was about here when I started to snooze and had to go to bed. Her performance was beyond boring. Why did they have her again?
Rihanna - I love you but you were NOT on your A game. Many-a-note were way off. Katy Perry - this goes for you too. It was bad.
Justin Beiber - Can't stand him. I honestly thought he only had one song, so I must say I was surprised when he sang a different song other than that annoying "Baby baby baby ooooh".... blah blah blah. Shut up.
Well that wraps it up for my Wednesday's (errr Monday's) What's Up With That!? Who do you think was the worst dressed or delivered the worst performance of the night?

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
I saw this gem while driving a few weeks ago home from work on the lovely 91 freeway. It was too good not to share.
What's up with that!? Camper shell too short for you? Maybe its an abnormally tall person who owns it? My thought however was, how do you get in? I was so intrigued that I made my way to the other side of the vehicle and determined there was no latch or door of any kind. Maybe he puts the bed down and crawls in through the hole? Anywho, I thought it was hilariously awesome. Enjoy!

Wednesday's What's Up With That!?
Okay. I'll admit it. I'm a Denver Broncos fan. Sigh.
I'm a little frustrated with some of decisions that have been made thus far. I know there are throngs of these types of blogs or articles circulating around the internet of upset and unhappiness, but I too want to add mine.
So let me tell it like this - if your team posted the second WORST record in the NFL this season (yes we get the 2nd overall draft pick blah blah blah who cares), WHY would you hire the ONLY coach in the NFL with a WORSE record that yours (aka John Fox)!? WHY!? What's up with that!?
I didn't necessarily think that firing McDaniels was necessary either. I don't think it was him. If anyone should have been fired it should have been the Defensive Coordinator. I have never been so embarrassed as a Broncos fan as that mortifying loss to the Raiders this season..... AT HOME! The UPS delivery guy for our office building (a huge Raiders fanatic who I constantly talk smack to) came in and hugged me and did some sort of jig. He didn't even have a delivery!
Our defense has been horrendous. Simply horrendous. There is really no other word to describe it. Yes, the Defensive Coordinator falls under the head coach, but I still think the Defensive Coordinator should have been fired over McDaniels..... and then to replace McDaniels with Studesville!? Seriously? At that time I believe we were ranked 4th or so in passing but 30th (out of 32 for those of you not as into football as I) in rushing. So why would you pick the running back coach to be interim head coach? Because he was doing such a stellar job? Clearly no.
Ugh. I believe there were many picks far superior to John Fox for the head coaching position of the Denver Broncos. However, I'm not in charge, I just get to whine about it in my "Wednesday's What's Up With That!?".
Let's hope/pray/think good thoughts/etc. that next year's (the 2011-2012) season isn't as embarrassing as the past few seasons have been and that we can actually put up a winning record.
Nevertheless, I will remain a true Broncos fan. I will continue to root for them each and every week. I now, however, have my outlet for my increasing frustration thanks to my new blog (yay).
ps: I'm still super irritated they traded Tony Scheffler to the Lions last year - he was my fave (insert grumpy face here)!
